Yong

24yong Yong is a delightful 8 year old who came to us on the 6th of November 2009, with her young sister May.

On the whole Yong is very well behaved but has her moments when she can be very mischeivous and cheeky but usually all in good fun.

She loves drawing and has shown some early aptitude for this activity.

As can be seen in the photo she also loves to play in the water and has recently responded well to swimming instruction given by Somboon.

Like any siblings she has her occassional spats with sister May but for the majority of the time they are the best of friends and very protective of each other.

Yong and May were brought to our attention by a concerned teacher when Yongs placement at a Childrens Home in Lamphun was suddenly ended by the Home, leaving her educational future uncertain. She and May were both in the care of their Grandparents, who were acting parents for a total of 8, in a rural village near San Pa Tong, approximately 40 kilometres from Stratton House. With family resources stretched to the limits and no village school within easy reach, the family requested placement here at Stratton House for the sisters to ensure ongoing education for both of them.

With support and encouragement, here at Stratton House, Yong was rapidly moved up a class, after initial assessments had her in the same class as May. Some rapid work on writing Thai alphabet, with extra work done here at Stratton House and lots of enthusiasm from Yong herself, the school were happy to move her up after just a couple of weeks.

From reports from their new school it would seem that both Yong and May have settled in well and already made lots of new friends.
