As The Stratton ABC Foundation approaches its 3rd year of operation and prepares to secure a land purchase for the construction of a permanent , purpose built, facility we thought it would be good to take a look back at the Foundations makings and progress.
Over the next few weeks there will be occasional posts looking back at some of the highlights of the Foundations work.
As Director of the Foundation my own background is working as a Support worker with Autistic adults and children in the UK for several years.
After having settled in Thailand for a couple of years I was very much missing my work, more of a vocation than a job.
Seeing an opportunity to give something back to the country that had made me so welcome and given me such a feeling of belonging, The Stratton ABC Foundation was born.
The first job was to find suitable premises. Recalling a previous trip out on the look out for a smaller home for myself I came back to Mae Salaab to find what we now refer to as Stratton House still empty and up for rent at a very reasonable rate.
Whereas the house itself was pretty much up to scratch already, there was a lot of work to be done in the garden to make it safe for children.
Then furnishing the rooms, fitting fans and sorting the kitchen. Three months hard graft for myself and my assistant Somboon, with some paid help from local electric fitters.
Look out for the next recall post in two days time.
