So the works continue and we’re getting quite excited now as we see things coming together.

The toilet/showers blocks should be finished on Saturday;

we have had a ceiling fitted in the outhouse that will be used for staff accommodation;

the stud wall for Boons room is all but done;

and today we had a clay soil/stone mix delivered, spread and bulldozed flat(ish).

There was a bit of a mix up at the start of the day when just clay was delivered and laid down thick as if we were going to build on it. But we quickly got that sorted and got the right mix and had it spread a lot thinner.

I have to say I was a bit dissapointed that MDF was used for Boons stud wall. Having worked with this stuff in the past, I am not a big fan.

But as the job had been finished before I had a chance to say anything, we will live with it.

The tiles were going up in the shower blocks yesterday and today, and I look forward to the finished product on Saturday.

For our part, Boon and myself did some more smashing and spreading of old breeze blocks. Once with done we will hire in a pounder to crush them down fine.

Well, I imagined that works might be called off for today as we had a couple of boughts of torrential rain today. But I’m happy to report that the builders managed to get on with a fair bit and our shower block now has a roof and the initial flooring work is done to.

The rain had stopped by the time we got there, after school and so i set about creating the first pathway. In an attempt to keep costs down and following a long standing principle of recycling, we are using the old breeze blocks to create the foundings of the pathways.

A hours or so of that and I was wet through with sweat and ready to come home.
