Bit late getting round to this post but rest assured we did not forget Jors 15th Birthday last week. On getting home from school she first received a card and very nice T-shirt sent from England by my Mum. She was very happy with it…and yes Mum , I did approve :)

After a light dinner it was Happy Birthday time, with the cake Jor chose at Big C and assorted snack food and pop.

With the usual rendering of the Happy Birthday song., Jor made her wish, blew out the candles on her cake and everyone tucked into the party food.

Jor , hope you have a great fifteenth year as you grow up into a proper young lady. We are very happy and proud of all you do around the house, you help Bpaa Muay so much…..maybe a job as future House Mother.

Top Student Hits 14

In the middle of the week  it was Birthday time again. This time it was our grade A student, Tai who was celebrating.
First present came through the post from my Mother, an Oasis CD. From the Foundation he received a new watch, (Sorry Mum the one you gave for Xmas bit the dust) and a Guitar lesson book with VCDs.
As it happened it was also a day off  school for the Mattayom students and Tai spent some of his day starting his self portrait Mural.

Committed student that he is he also still found time for more study at home.

After a light dinner in the early evening, it was Cake and Kanom time again. This time round we chose Icecream cake. Having not long come out of the freezer Tai had quite a job cutting it, but got there in the end.

Tai, I hope your 14th year sees continued success in your school studies and more self discovery of the many talents you possess.

Happy Birthday Gu

Yesterday was Gus 15th Birthday. Being a school night homework still had to be done but at 7pm the tables were laid and out came the candles.

I hadn’t been able to get a proper Birthday cake so substituted with some special Icecream and Kanom sized cakes and crisps.

The candles were put into a pot ontop of the Icecream pot prior to opening and Gu spent a long time making his wish before blowing out the candles.

Everyone tucked in to the various delights on the table and Gu received the present sent by my mother and also a new watch from me.

Another great day.

Yet another Birthday Party. This Thursday Nu celebrated her 10th Birthday. She received a small craft kit from my Mother, posted from England. And a few new clothes from myself. Cake, kanom and a DVD to watch and everyone had a great time.

Monday saw the first Birthday party for one of the children from Nan. It is strange how Thai people don’t appear to take so much note of their birthday or, indeed, birth year. There was a little confusion at first with May claiming to be 12 years old. Checking her birth certificate I confirmed that she actually became 11 on Monday. Sorry May, another year before you get to stay up later.

May got a little extra pocket money for the day at school and we gave her her card on her return from school.

 It had ended up that I was on my own to do the present buying at the market in Banthi in the morning. May had requested clothes and I was not at all sure what to buy an 11 year old Thai girl. After a light dinner I presented her with the two shirts I had bought and breathed a sigh of relief when I saw how happy she was with them.

She rushed off to put her favourite on, before we had the small party at around 7pm. Birthday cake, mango and sticky rice and lots more kanom and pop.

Lots of smiles and happiness that make this work worth it.
