Another work hour this morning and everyone did there bit. The general philosophy here at Stratton ABC Foundation is to combine education, skills development, fun and character building work projects to give our children the best chance of leaving here as level headed, rounded, responsible and happy  individuals.

One of the values we are trying to encourage is a care for the environment. We do our best to recycle as much as possible and compost our food and garden waste. The results of this composting is then used on our vegetable plots which are all cared for and planted by the children.

We are inbetween crops right now but look forward to the next gifts from our garden.

Friday was time for Childrens Day celebrations at Mae Salaab School which meant a perfect excuse for Mum to go and take a look at where the children go for their education.

When we arrived the festivities were already well underway with lots of games on stage and in the playground.

It was great to see all the children having so much fun. We were especially proud when seeing our kids getting involved, talking, playiing and singing on stage.

Mum was given a warm welcome by all and had a little friend, Nuuan, accompany her everywhere for much of the visit.

The children all received free bags and far too much kanom, but hey its only once a year.

Our children did all have to put their uneaten kanom in the kitchen store where it will given out over the coming days at an acceptable rate.

Well done all the staff at Mae Salaab for a very well organised fun day for all the children.

Last Saturday,(22nd), Li Li Tan came again to help the children finish off the first Mural and also get started on some more. On Friday the children had washed down three more wall panels, close to the hut showing the first Mural.

Li Li arrived with Ally and another willing helper,( sorry said I was hopeless remembering names:)), mid morning and whilst Li Li added finishing touches to the first Mural, the children set about working on chalk sketches for the next set of panels to be worked on.

I can not say enough thank yous to Li Li for her efforts and hints to the children on how to improve their skills.

We would also like to thank Li Li’s friend, Wendy, who donated money towards purchase of painting equipment in memory of John Archer.

I also find it hard to put it into words of how proud I am of the kids, seeing their talents emerging and blossoming.

If you are reading this please consider donating or even becoming a regular sponsor to ensure that we can continue our work and care for these children and many more in the future.

A break in the rains meant that Sundays trip out could go ahead and we went to our regular haunt Huay Tung Taow, where the usual fun and games was had by all.

It was up to Wasana to look out for the children as myself and Boon wanted a little quiet time of or own for a change and went to sit elsewhere to relax in blissful peace and quiet.

Consequently all the photos you will see from this trip, apart from those back at the truck, were taken by Tai.

During the time there a lovely Tai lady, Paa , (i hope I got your name right), stopped to chat with Wasana and the children and bought Kanom for them all, for which they all say a big thanks.

Luckily I got to meet Paa myself as she was still there when it was time to leave.

Paa explained that she loved to help out with children and was very intereted in our Foundation, promising to pass word on to her friends , including her Swiss partner.

We didn’t have long but I would like to say that it was lovely to meet you Paa and thanks for being so nice to the kids. Hope you enjoyed your break and that your onward travels go well.

We look forward to hearing from or seeing you in the future.

childrens home goodbye

This weekends trip out took us to San Kampaeng Hot Springs where we had arranged to meet Khruu Khem and her friend Anna from Holland.

Anna lives in a village nearby to Huay Sai and has been helping Khruu Khem with her Saturday ‘Say Hello’ club for some time now.

We met inside the Hot Springs compound at just after 1pm, and Anna and Khruu met and chatted with all the kids, before they all dissapeared, desperate to play in the water and in the playground.

This week we told the children they could play in the smaller pool, close to the geysers as it is just 10 baht per child, next to 50 baht at the big pool. The children were quite happy and had a fine old time.

The adults spent time relaxing by the stream where you can douse your feet. It has to be said that the water was a little too hot for comfort on this occassion. Still the ambience of the beautifully landscaped gardens still lent a relaxing time.

By 3.30 everyone was happy to go home having had plenty of fun for the day.

So after taking part in the local Tambon ceremony it was off to our favourite haunt, Huay Tung Tao.

This week we had a full quota of children, with general behaviour having been very good alround.

The only one who was not there was Jack as he is at home at the moment.

I would like to ask you to spare a moment to send you best wishes to Jack as he attends his mother who is very ill at this time.

Our thoughts and love are with you Jack.

As usual the kids had lots of fun in the water and out.

I’d like to apologise to Khruu khem and her friends who came to visit only to find us not at home. Maybe you will come again soon, and even come on the trip out with us if you like. The kids would love it.
