Mary Gray and her daughter Jemsai, friends of our Australian Faa Gamma Team fund raiser Heather , are in Chiang Mai right now and paid us a welcome visit yesterday.

They stayed for dinner and met all the kids and before they left we agreed to a Xmas visit when they will hopefully be staying with us here in Stratton House for a few days.

15 year old Jemsai is studying child care back in Australia and is keen to use her visit to gain experience.

They also very generously donated 1000 baht to enable us to purchase turf for our ongoing garden improvements.

Big thanks to you both for your help , the turf has already been laid:)

We look forward to seeing you again at Xmas.

I’d like to add continued thanks and appreciation to all the Children here for their efforts with our continuing Garden Improvement projects. In between all the fun they all worked very hard, helping clear ground and shift soil, ready for our next patch of lawn as well as finishing the first batch of long vegetable plots at the bottom of the garden.
Unfortunately our existing soil supply was not quite enough to finish the job. We will also need turf to finish the job.
A truck load of soil comes at 850 baht and at a rough estimate we need close to 1000 bahts worth of turf to complete this section of improvement.

We don’t need the full truck load to finish the lawn section but any excess would go towards the next lot of vegetable plots.

Indeed we will also need around 500 bahts worth of bamboo to establish our next batch of vegetable plots.

And another 500 bahts worth to complete all planned stages.

Please help, as our improvements budget is currently empty.

As part of our ongoing improvements we spent some time last weekend and in the afternoons this week preparing ground and laying lawn for more comfortable play and relaxation areas for the children and adults alike.
The small patch you see now cost around 1800 baht in total, with 200 bahts worth of turf given free by the friendly supplier at Kamtieng Garden Market.
We would like to extend this area and add more around the grounds.
If you feel you could help, please visit the Wishlist in our online shop.

Another week goes by and life goes on with the children making use of their free time, playing chess and making dens in the garden.

We have a good group here who play well together most of the time.

Chess is still very popular and we might have to think about more boards and maybe even an in house chess competition.

The younger ones tend to play in the garden, making temporary dens.

This is one of the reasons for the “lawn” in our wishlist.

We don’t like to discourage such imaginative play but we need to cut down on the cuts and bruises that occur with the present rough surface in the garden.

These days Tai is mostly to be found working at the computer, with quite an extrodinary amount of homework to be done.

This week the Lamyai have benefitted from the heavy rains and grown significantly, so that the children get to benefit to by eating these delicious fruit everyday.
