Yesterday was Anna and Toms 4th day with us and it turned out to be a very interesting one. After a phone call the day before, from Khruu Khem of Huay Sai School, 14 kms from our Foundation home, it was arranged that we would visit the school to help the children with English vocabulary.

It turned out that the school is getting various visits this week with a view to inspecting its standards. Yesterday they were visited by the Governor of Lamphun Province, within which Huay Sai is situated.

Our day began as usual with the school run, taking the four Mattayom Students to their school in Sarapee, picking up Anna and Tom on the way. From there we went to the vegetable market in Sarapee and got the weeks supplies.

Having dropped the veg back home we then headed off to Huay Sai , arriving a little after 9am.

Shortly after our arrival we were treated to some cultural performances laid on for the Governor, including Traditional Thai Dancing, Hula Hoop Dancing and a display of Muay Thai/stick fighting by the boys.

Then it was into Khruu Khems English classroom, which had been laid out to imitate a small market, ready for the children to go “shopping” using English language.

Anna, Tom and myself  spent time helping the children practice their vocabulary, both with the shopping exercise and with a performance of ” Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”.

We all had lots of fun and when it came to the children doing the exercise in front of the visiting inspectors they all did a great job.

Big thanks to my Mum and my sister, Theresa, back in the Uk who have been working hard on Fund Raising ideas and recently operated a stall at a local Church “market” in Worcester City.

Most of what was for sale was handmade by my Mum and Sister, including teddy bears, bracelets, Xmas decorations and much more.

I am officially naming them as our 2nd Gamma team, Yai Gamma (Yai being …Grandmother).

They hope to make this a regular event and are also considering operating at Car Boots sales as well when the weather allows.

Apologies for the quality of the photo, taken on my Mums phone, she promises to use her proper camera next time.

The first sale raised 50 pounds sterling.

Some of the Teddy Bears made by my Mother are also on sale at Nok Em Ded in the centre of Chiang Mai Old City.

This Sunday happened to be Valentines Day, so the day out included not only Huay Tung Tao,

but also visits to both Kamtieng  Garden  Market and the Flower Market close to Chiang Mais China Town at the banks of the River Ping.

We ate at home this week and then enjoyed a couple of hours of the peaceful ambience of Huay Tung Taow and some time in the water, before heading into Kamtieng Garden Market, behind Tesco Lotus on the super highway.

The children had made a special request to be able to go and buy flowers for Valentines day.

At Kamtieng we let the children choose some flowers for the garden. From there we went to the riverside Flower Market where they all bought roses.

The spirit of Valentines truely came to Stratton House a couple of days early. Friday evening saw the culmination of a very stressful week for myself.

As hard as I tried I know that the children had sensed my stress.

On returning home, mid-evening from a meeting I was met by all the children as I walked into the house. They took me by the hands and ushered me, excitedly, round to the art area. There they proceeded to hand me a whole load of Valentines cards and paper hearts that they had made for me.

To say I was touched is an understatement. The stresses of the week, and this spontaneous show of affection, hit me like a tornado and I have to confess to being unable to stop the tears.

I quickly assured the children that it was because they had made me so happy.

This now has become a running quote in the house, “Daddy long hai, bpen kwam suk mak”.

The cards and hearts now adorn my door and bring a glow to my heart each time I see them.
