water

Tap water is not a safe option for drinking in Thailand so we have to buy in 20 liter bottles of safe drinking water. The weekly cost of this is an average of 2.50 sterling.

Just to let you know that you can now purchase either The Stratton ABC Foundation 2011 Calendar, featuring photos of all the children of Stratton House, or our Handmade greetings cards, from our online shop or here at Stratton House should you happen to visit.
We soon hope to have these and other products available in outlets in Chiang Mai.
If you have a shop, guest house, restauarant, etc where you would be happy to sell these products for us then please contact me here through this website.

As part of our ongoing improvements we spent some time last weekend and in the afternoons this week preparing ground and laying lawn for more comfortable play and relaxation areas for the children and adults alike.
The small patch you see now cost around 1800 baht in total, with 200 bahts worth of turf given free by the friendly supplier at Kamtieng Garden Market.
We would like to extend this area and add more around the grounds.
If you feel you could help, please visit the Wishlist in our online shop.

This weekend the children at Stratton House got down to more hard work in the garden.

With Wasanaas help the girls set to tidying the area to the left of the house and created a rockery with some beautiful flowers to brighten the place up.

Meanwhile, the boys used bamboo to create our second “allottment” section.

This now holds Jacks Broccoli plants and Tai seeded the rest with Pak Bung.

We would like to create more of these small allottments and if you feel like helping, please visit our online shop where you could assist by “purchasing” soil, seeds or bamboo to enable the extention of this project.

Seven and a bit months since we officially opened and nearly a year since started this project has seen much funding by the Directors. We have a few regular supporters and a couple of child sponsors, who add a little to the coffers.

Whilst still in the process of registration it is difficult to go out and find the bigger sponsors that we need to ensure that our work goes on here.

We would like to ask all that know and trust us and anyone who finds this site and likes what we are doing, to find it in their hearts to look at the ways they could help.

Please take some time to browse the online shop. We hope to extend the range of goods available, with all profit going into the Foundation Funds.

Please consider joining the ‘Because You Care Club’ and let us send special greetings to your loved ones on their Birthdays. Or perhaps you would like to become a sponsor for one of our children and get personalised updates on their progress, exchange letters , gifts etc.

You can donate online using the button on the right of the page.

Maybe, if you have the time and inclination, you could join our Australian friends, Faa Gamma, and organise a fund raising team and get your efforts featured on this site.

As the old saying goes, every little bit helps.

If you would like to fund something in particular please take a look at our wishlist.

Everyone here at Stratton House thanks you for your interest and any help you may be able to give.

Just a note to apologise for the long delay in adding details of how to sponsor a child with us.

I have been having technical difficulties with the shop and have had problems  adding details.

I have managed to add details of two of the children to our shop today.

For those of you who wish to start sponsoring any of the  children at Stratton House, and can not find their details in the shop, please contact me here as to which child you wish to sponsor and please pay through Paypal for now.

The child sponsor rate is 20 pounds sterling per month.

As a childs sponsor you will receive a personalised profile of your chosen child with a quaterly update on their progress in life and education. You can also exchange letters and gifts with your child;

If sending gifts please consider the other childrens feelings and don’t be too lavish.

In the future we hope to sort our internet connection problems and be able to facilitate email exchanges as well.

shop2Another productive day yesterday, partly due to the school in Banthi still being part closed due to Teachers being at some event elsewhere.

This meant I had much more time than I expected to work on filling the ‘shelves’ in our online shop which I hope to have truely online by the end of the weekend.

I have a meeting with webmaster Ally on Friday.

As with all this computer technology it will take me time to acclimatise to using the software to its best potential so you will no doubt see continual changes, hopefully for the better as time progresses.

DSCF5120 (Custom)Thursday saw me having my first lessons, from my friend Ally, in how to operate the online shop that she has been setting up for us. I would ask you to bear with me as it often takes my brain a while to become acclimatised to these technological advances.
Hopefully it won’t take too long as Ally has managed to find a very user friendly software package.
So, no hard and fast promises but I hope that we may be able to officially ‘open’ the shop at the beginning of Xmas week.
Too late for those Xmas cards I know, but hopefully we’ll have a decent range of interesting products that can help us boost our funds.
As well as the childrens handmade art and craft products, greetings cards, postcards, etc , we will also be stocking other items such as wood carvings, Thai silks and the like in the hope of optimising the shops potential for fund raising.
Any ideas for popular items to have in the shop will be very welcome.

yong22000The children are still churning out the pictures. Yong is the most enthusiastic and shows a blossoming skill.

I have been selecting the best of the drawings by all the children, along with the best photos to date, with the intention of producing postcards and greetings cards that will be on sale soon in our online shop which is being worked on by our webmaster Ally. Having seen the prototype I’m quite excited.

We will also do our best to find some local outlets who may sell these items for us within the local community.

Its getting a bit close for comfort but we will also be seeing if the children would like to produce some handmade Christmas cards.

We have to say a big thanks to Ally for all her hard work and also for now having sponsored our website for the next 5 years as well as donating 1000 baht a month to cover our internet expenses. Cheers Ally.
