Recent posts have mentioned visits from our friend Oscar who has been putting together a promotional video for the Foundation.

This first finished edition is exactly what we hoped for and we would like to extend our deepest thanks to Oscar for all his effort.

As we start with our plans for a permanent facility in which to develop our Foundations work and services, to hopefully go on to help many more children here in Thailand, we are desperately in need of a major fund raising push and we believe that this video does a great job of introducing what we are all about and why we need your help.

There will be a permanent link to this video appearing on the website imminently.

Very soon this video will also feature Thai language sub-titles.

Ernestos Dream Continued.

Earlier this year The Stratton ABC Foundation benefited from a bequest by the late Ernst Weber. Ernst was a regular visitor to Northern Thailand and developed a love for its people and its culture. He very much wanted to do something to help disadvantaged children in Northern Thailand.
On receiving the donation we agreed to use it to secure land on which we can construct a purpose built, permanent facility including services for the wider community as well as more placement availability for disadvantaged children from Northern Thailand.
With inflation raging and costs rising we desperately need all those who know or see our work and like what we are doing, to pitch in and help.
Last week we made a deposit on land, which will be bought in The Foundations name. On completion of the purchase next month we will the begin the challenging task of designing the facility and finding sponsors to fund the building work.
We would like to ask for suggestions for naming of the facility.
We would also like to ask if there is anyone with access to an architect who may offer their services free, for the official design.
With thought to the children’s future, we very much want to make the facility as environmentally friendly as possible. We will be incorporating re-cycle and composting ideas into the design stage as well as researching the possibilities of using solar panel roofing to produce our own electricity.
Any serious input is very welcome.
The ground is due to be cleared this month as part of the purchase agreement so look out for updated photos and a better idea of the size of the site.

A Helping Hand and a Silver Lining

Ever more good things are starting to happen at Stratton House with a helping hand from an impressive facility here in Chiang Mai.

Recently we have been experiencing behavior problems with one of our children. After trying many ways to try and improve matters we extended our search for help and support and were lucky to discover the Royal Institute of Child Development in Mae Rim.

The Institute is a Foundation whose impressive facility offers many services for children free of charge. Their helpful and clearly well trained staff can assist with proper investigation and diagnosis of behavioral problems; they have therapeutic activities; social workers; specialist Doctors and Child Psychologists.

As a result of taking the child in question to this facility just this week he has already been assigned a social worker, has had an initial assessment with a qualified Doctor and will be started with a Child psychologist later this month.

Today a group of Social Workers visited Stratton House and as well as future regular social worker visits for one particular child, with group sessions planned to involve all the children we will be continuing discussions with the Institute on how to continue to improve our own services and work practises with possible support with Staff training and recruitment.

This brings the hope of a true silver lining to the situation that brought this about, moving forward this Foundations wishes to ensure the highest standards with professional independent monitoring.

We have already recently instigated daily recording by Staff to monitor behaviors both positive and negative in order to continue to tailor our services to best serve the needs of all our children.

It is a big boost to our hopes that this sort of support is available at such close quarters.

Grounds Improve and Collection Boxes on Their Way

Recently our team here at Stratton House was boosted by the arrival of Somboons Father, Boonma, who has been a great help during his stay.

Up early every morning he has been hard at work tidying up all the rough edges that remained around the grounds.

He has also started to utilise the remaining soil patches for vegetable growing.

Around the borders of our site you can see many small wickered ‘fences’ like these which mark where he has planted pumpkin and marrows.

On top of all this he has been spending the remainder of his daytime hours constructing collection boxes. When he has finished this first batch we will have 30 collection boxes which we hope to place in and around the local community.

The aim is that eventually the revenue from these boxes may cover the basic running costs of the home.

This will mean that more of your donations can be put towards further improvements to our facilities and services and towards our long term aim to actually purchase the property to ensure a permanent facility.

Behind the house the foundations of a previous building will be used for sporting activities such as badminton and basketball.

We hope to purchase a net this weekend and Boonma is possibly going to make us a basketball hoop very soon.
