Another excellent day yesterday with our talented Volunteers holding cooking class for the children. The order for the day was Rotee, South American style.

The kids did have work hour in the garden first thing , so Natalie and Ip got started in the kitchen with Nu watching, whilst the rest of the crew were outside digging soil for new vegetable plots.

However, after some sterling effort with the shovels, the work hour was shortened and everyone joined the girls in the kitchen.

Natalie and Ip were great “Teachers” and really got all the kids involved.

It was fantastic to see the children all watching attentively and taking their turns kneading the dough, rolling the Rotees and then folding them and placing them on the tray ready for rising.

Once all the Rotees were prepared the children also helped out with preparing the vegetables for the planned Indian styled stew that was to accompany the Rotees on the dinner table.

The whole exercise was very popular and the kids had great fun and we now have an additon to our menu that I feel sure may become a regular thing.

Great job Nat and Ip.

After the work was relax and play games time.

In the afternoon the girls accompanied myself and Bpaa Zang taking Nu to the hospital, where, after a long wait, we got the good news that her arm is fine and her plaster was removed.

With such a long time at the hospital dinner was a little late as the girls needed to cook the stew when we got back late afternoon.

For me it was well worth the wait. We aren’t too sure how the kids felt about it, it is notoriously difficult to get them to try and enjoy something new, especially when it is not accompanied by rice. That said all plates were cleared.

What was most definitely popular was the sweet ,Rotees with strawberry jam that the kids had for breakfast this morning.

Today it was the turn of some very kind Thai community members to make a generous donation, this time a full PC Set.

Our kind lady friend , proprietor of  Suantai Garden Nursery in Sarapee; who last week donated a monitor, keyboard and mouse; phoned to say that her good friend, Ninnat Onwan; Teacher at a technical college in Huay Kaow Rd; had donated a full set second hand PC, with newly loaded Windows XP.

We were able to pick the computer up from the Nursery on the way back from school, ( the Mattayom kids had Saturday study this week).

The computer is already set up for use and we would like to say a very big Thank You to Khun Ninnat.

A pleasant meeting yesterday, at Ratchadamneon Coffee, in the old city, resulted in a very kind donation of brand new copies of the first two Harry Potter books, in Thai language, from a visiting Foundation supporter, Rick Carbert.

Rick has expressed his hope to supply the complete set in time and maybe donate further with a view to building up the children’s reading library.

Having always been a great believer in the value of reading I have always done my best to ensure a supply of various books, so this is a very welcome donation

Big thanks to Rick.

We are in the lead up to the end of the school term and , indeed, school year. We have been very happy with our childrens progress in their respective schools this year.

As is always the case at this time, the childrens homework and study load has been quite high and if they are not studying for tests they have been busy with projects that also go towards their final grades.

Monday afternoon brought a brand new activity for the children thanks to our friends Des, Pui, Jochen and Ran who organised a horse riding session at Abenteur Farm, situated in the grounds of Mc Keans Hospital.

Going straight from school we drove over to the farm ready for the session booked for 4.30.

Des, Jochen and the girls were all there waiting with the friendly staff at the stables.

After greetings and refreshments some of the children went with the staff to begin grooming the horses ready for the riding, whilst the others played on the trampoline.

The children soon overcame whatever nervousness they might have had and did a great job with the grooming.

With four horses available they all had to take their turns, but this was no problem with the swings and trampoline to keep them happy as they waited.

Everyone had a go and they all thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m sure it will not be the last time.

We would like to say a big thank you to our friendly hosts at the farm and to Des , Jochen and all the gang for making this fun activity possible. And of course, a big thanks to the horses:)

This last weekends work sessions have been a bit of light relief for the kids after recent hard work at the Foundation land.

Sunday morning saw more effort to progress the A B C Mural, instigated by our recent Volunteer Emilie.

Some great effort and lots of fun.

This mornings “work” session for the children was not to forget their promise to our recent volunteer Emilie. She had started a pictorial AB C using animals as our latest Mural painting efforts.

They all had a lot of fun bringing this project along.

Tai, who had been otherwise occupied at the time Emilie instigated this project, chose to work on his own idea having sketched out “The Angry Birds” on 2 walls earlier this week.

As end of term approaches there has been a lot of extra study for the kids here in preparation for their tests, but they have all been encouraged to ensure they get plenty of chill out time in between and not to stress too much.

To do your best is all you can do .

You will spot young Nu is sporting a sling after a fall out of bed. Good news is that the resulting fracture does not appear to be too serious and she hopes to be out of plaster in just two weeks.

Last weekend , after work on Saturday, the children got a welcome visit from two recent new friends and helpers to the Foundation, Christin and Nadine, who are living and working in Chiang Mai and are encouraged to do additional community work by their company Chiang Mai Lanna Business Services Ltd.

As well as visiting on satrday and spending quality time, including lunch, with the children Christin and Nadine have offered much needed help with promotion and admin of the Foundation.

In addition to this we have been told that CLBS are keen to help further and are looking at the possibility of boosting our children s Library.

The kids had great fun with Christin and Nadine and will be most happy to see them again soon.

Earlier this week I was contacted by an English couple, Phillip and Sue Sleigh.

Phillip and Sue are retired teachers who now live in France, and raise money for disadvantaged Asian children by holding dinner parties at their home.

This is done under their Associations name “Enfants de la Rue”.

Through this Associations fund raising Phillip and Sue have spent many years supporting many different causes in relation to disadvantaged children right across Asia, not just in Thailand.

Already in Chiang Mai they were short on time but keen to meet having seen our website, and in the process of deciding which causes to support.

Luckily I was able to meet them today in town, as it happens at the Top North Hotel, a place I seem to be visiting a lot lately.

They are a lovely couple and I was very happy that they just about had time to squeeze in a visit to our home and have a chance to actually meet the kids, just back from school.

After meeting the children and having a look around the premises Phillip and Sue generously donated 9000 baht, proceeds from their dinner party fund raising. We would like to say a big thank you to this wonderful couple and all those who attended their parties and contributed towards this donation.

We do hope you’ll stay in touch.
