Not being a Christian myself and being in a Buddhist country we did not make such a big thing about Xmas.
That said we did get the children to leave socks at the end of their beds, which Santa dutifully filled with sweets etc,.
It was a normal schoolday for the children so we saved their presents for when they got home. Mindful that our numbers will grow and that our budget is not so big the presents received were small but gratefully received by the kids. Yong and May both got Panda Books and immediately set to colouring in and cutting out. Jack got a Thai reading book and seemed equally pleased.
There wasn’t too much time to play though , Yong was due to be performing in an Xmas production. There is a Christian community in Mae Salab and a small church, where they held and Xmas evening show with free food and performances by children from local schools.
I have to say that I was a little embarrassed when it came to Yongs groups turn. I had wrongly assumed that outfits would be provided and no one had told me otherwise. This meant that Yong stood out a little in her jeans and sweater amongst her friends in their pretty dresses.
This didnt hold her back though and I was very proud to see her take part. You will soon be able to see the videos I took of her performance which will appear on the site later this week.
We all went along and Jack and May cheered Yong on as she danced for the audience.
